Tools and Resources

Like every good craftsmen, every writer needs good tools. Here are some of my favourites.

Oxford Dictionaries - This is the free version, and while it's not as detailed as the paid version, it's still an incredibly useful and reliable tool.

Thesaurus.com - An incredibly handy resource for everyone since you probably don't have the dictionary memorised.

Rhyme Zone Rhyming Thesaurus - This is very convenient for poetry, especially if you write sonnets.

Literary Devices - This is a useful resource for writers as well as literature students. It's a fairly comprehensive list of terms and gives impressively clear definitions and examples.

Son of Citation Machine - Generates footnotes and bibliographies for you based on the style you need. I ask you, does it get more useful than that?

Purdue OWL - This website, run by Purdue University in Indiana, is an incredible resource for writers, especially those who do academic writing. Offering information on how to write in various contexts (including particular academic subjects, job searching, teaching, tutoring, and ESL), and detailed information on style guides and citation, this is accessible, detailed help for becoming a better writer.
